COURSE OBJECTIVES AND LENGTH

The Refrigeration course builds on the knowledge of the student gained during their HVAC
program of study at WCPC and/or while working in the HVAC field. The focus is an
understanding of mechanical components of domestic and commercial refrigeration systems,
controls and schematics. Study elements include theory and hands on training to provide a full
understanding of safety, components, compressors, controls, schematics, testing and
maintenance, troubleshooting and refrigeration cycles. Classroom and hands on lab training
includes theory and practical applications of domestic and light commercial refrigeration, ice
machines, reach in and display coolers, walk in coolers and freezers.

The program consists of 150 total clock hours which are utilized within classroom training and practical hands-on training within WCPC laboratory (lab) space.

PREREQUISITE

*This program requires a prerequisite of completion of the WCPC HVAC program or approval from WCPC administration based on the individual’s field working experience.
